Alexandre Kapellos is an architect and photographer based in Zürich. For his 14th birthday he received his first camera and used it to capture the world around him, from the landscapes of South America to the Bedouins of the Middle East. Alexandre returned to photography 25 years later through his architectural work and research. He has since travelled to Jakarta, Ho Chi Min City, Phnom Penh and Havana. More recently, his work has focused on his homeland, Greece and the Balkans. This is the fourth time that he has exhibited at PhotoSchweiz.

The Day After / Summer in the City. Confined inside our home and unable to travel due to the COVID restrictions, we were heading into the unknown. Time seemed to have stopped, slowed to a crawl. I knew I needed to document this, but my work had always been about photographing others, travels and faraway places. I had to turn the camera inwards. Long strolls in the mostly empty city became expeditions in a city I thought I knew. Discoveries of hidden, urban gems, punctuated with escapes to the surrounding mountains.
