Julia zeigt in ihren Fotografien scheinbar beiläufige Motive, wie ein an der Wand angelehntes Rad, einen vergessenen Wäschekorb im Hof einer Wohnanlage, oder eine Figur, die dem Betrachter auf einem Spielplatz den Rücken zuwendet und liest. Die fotografische Szene wird isoliert, die Orte so auch Hort der Entfremdung. Die dargestellten Sujets entspringen dem Alltag, sind von reduzierter Farbigkeit geprägt und geben keinerlei Hinweise auf Ort und Zeit. Der Bildaufbau der Aufnahmen ist klassisch mit einer starken Zentrierung des Hauptmotivs. Dieser kalkulierte Aufbau legt eine Mise-en-Scene wie im Film oder Theater nahe. Der cinematographische Blick bezeugt in den wie Gemälden konstruierten Photographien, wie WIR hier in der Welt sind. Es entsteht eine Intimität und Romantik, die an das 19. Jahrhundert erinnert. Wir begegnen hier keinem distanzierten, sondern einem beinahe zärtlichen Blick auf den sozial konstituierten und konstruierten Raum, der den Spielraum für eigene Phantasien offen hält. (Text: Diandra Donecker) In meinen Arbeiten erzähle ich nicht über einen Ort, sondern über ein Gefühl, das an unterschiedlichen Orten von mir gefunden wird. Ich kontrolliere nicht den Raum, den ich fotografiere, sondern beteilige mich daran, habe Freude am Sehen und identifiziere mich damit.

Unlike many photographers, I have no desire to be a dominant figure. I don’t seek to control a space; I don’t impose myself on what I photograph. I take part in it, identify with it. For me, bringing something to light, contemplating begins with cleaning and avoiding clichés, rather than composing. After some time I came to the conclusion, the things around us, which we find in every day life can be as beautiful and exciting as foreign countries and unknown cultures. People are characterized by the landscape, they live in. Just as every landscape is modified by their inhabitants. In my work I'm looking for this mutual influence and change. The landscape, including the city landscape, continues to provide new astonishments. I like to observe and to be inspired by what I find in the simple beauty of daily things.
