Exceptional inner and external conditions inspire Sonja Lackner to create ambiguous and sensual art. The artistic process includes diving into deep emotions, involving her body and playing with different materials. During her travels to 45+ countries the artist is experiencing her topics in the context of diverse social habits. From 2016 to 2018 she joined further educations at F&F and at Zurich University of the Arts. Born in 1983, Sonja Lackner grew up in Austria and has her home base in Zurich now.

FROM DEEP INSIDE and LE PARADIS D`APHRODITE Limited Editions Changing environment from my structured life in Switzerland to the vibrant centre of Barcelona facilitated my first photographs. After experimenting with different materials, colours and body parts I selected red pigment on skin to take ambiguous photos. Being overwhelmed by my intense feelings during this time I oscillated between extremes including sexual desire, shame, losing my self-control and adapting to social rules. Life was gaining depth. The intensity of the photos reflects my inner state. Part of this series was taken in Iran. There I was feeling well understood in my diverse emotions. Society is forced to life between extremes - their well-controlled public life and their proportionally free private life. My own discrepancies were intensified during my stay, and this was an important experience to capture those photos.
