Tiziana Amico (*1991) is an Italian-born photographer based in Zurich. Her work explores the interplay between body and space within the realms of identity, memory and belonging. Through an intimate perspective, her work promotes a dialogue on the complexities of reality. Her background in law shapes her interdisciplinary approach, blending legal research with visual storytelling.

‘Nunca Fui Adolescente‘ ('I Never Was A Teenager’) is an exploration of personal testimonies of those women who had children before reaching adulthood. Through a lens that delves into intimate stories, this project interrogates the stigmatized representation of adolescent mothers in Argentina. As they are caught in a balancing act, adolescent mothers face a complex reality: their development as adults on the one hand, and the challenge of motherhood on the other. By immersing myself in the lives of adolescent mothers, I seek to highlight the beauty and resilience found within difficult circumstances, rejecting conventional notions of what motherhood should look like. From the start of my project in 2020, I was particularly interested in exploring the discrepancy between representation and self-perception. In this sense, as part of an experimental activity, I came up with the idea of writing the opening sentence being teenager… on a piece of paper and having the protagonists of my project complete it. When I asked Mica, one of my protagonists, to write her point of view, she answered: «I never was a teenager, I was a mother straight away.»
