Ben Moreau got closer to photography at the same time he became interested in Bauhaus’ philosophy, the most iconic school of architecture and design of the 20th century. It was at this moment that he knew what would be his main subjects: architecture and minimalism. Moreau chooses strict geometric compositions and uses hard natural light to highlight colors and textures. The emphasis on construction details is going through a meticulous understanding of the space and the environment that he deconstructs by pushing the subject mostly out of the frame

Literally «without makeup», the «Ungeschminkt» photo series is an interpretation of a minimalistic and abstract tête-à-tête with the modern architecture of the twelve districts of Zurich. The «Ungeschminkt» project is a photographic work that presents a set of 144 photographs. A series of 12 images is devoted to each district and highlights the plasticity of architectural works, intimately linked to external factors such as space and time. Strict materiality thus generates an artistic immateriality, each shot offers a unique micro-state, making its observer a privileged witness. To complete his vision, Ben Moreau proposes an inedit work that he names « Disabtraction ». At the crossroads between photography and sculpture, this «mise en abîme» uses an element of the abstract subject in order to support the photograph itself and creates an extension towards the tangible world. By this «disabstraction» process, the subject is self-supported and introduces a new level of abstraction by creating a total work.
