Giacomo Cattaruzzi
Born in Udine, Italy, and based in Zurich since 2023, I approach photography as both a language and a way of seeing. Trained initially in the darkroom, my practice was shaped by early experiences of developing and printing by hand, which continue to inform my attention to light, form, and materiality. Today, I work interchangeably with analog and digital processes - including medium and large format film - selecting each according to the emotional and formal needs of a project. In the early stages of my career, my work focused on remote natural landscapes and was presented through exhibitions and public events in northeastern Italy, including the publication of a photographic book devoted to the alpine territory of Sauris. Over time, my focus shifted toward contemporary landscape photography, often associated with the “New Topographics,” exploring the subtle tension between natural space and human intervention. These themes have been developed through several solo exhibitions in Italy.
