The Arctic simultaneously represents fragility, grace and hostility. Here, the most fascinating beauty arises under the most extreme conditions. In her Arctic series, Lana Tannir explores the fascination of this remote region. From Iceland to Svalbard, her work illustrates the alluring landscapes and resilient wildlife that thrives on the ice. Lana Tannir’s motifs depict unique perspectives and dynamic angles. By emphasizing strong emotions and visual contrasts, each photo immortalizes a special instance, frozen in time. Her photographs create a dichotomy between adventure and peacefulness, depicting the Arctic from both angles. Ultimately, the viewer is invited immerse themselves in a remote adventure to the northernmost corners of the world. It was midnight in Longyearbyen - the northernmost city on earth. As I walked along the frozen coastline, I could hear the ice cracking loudly beneath my feet. The midnight sun shone brightly and the fragile ice-bed was thinning. Winter season was slowly coming to an end. It was mid-May, and yet the temperatures were still below zero. As I cautiously continued further, feeling the ice-bed shivering beneath the soles of my shoes, I suddenly encountered a magical scene. The beautiful red houses of Longyearbyen situated in front of a majestic white mountain reflected themselves perfectly in the melted water. I will never forget the idyllic beauty that this extreme, yet delicate and fragile region had presented to me in that moment.
